Hi --I was curious is the older models still in production some how or are they being refurbished. Can buyers get a huge discount if they are interested in buying the previous models.
Older models are definitely out of production. Yamaha switches production lines over to the new models and never looks back. It's not cost effective to keep older lines alive and sometimes the internal parts themselves are no longer available.
Refurb is tricky. A large number of refurbs might indicate a systemic problem. Why were they returned/repaired?
Discount depends upon a retailer's or manufacturer's desire (desperation) to clear old inventory and how long they are willing to wait at a given price point. I saw stacks of low-end digital pianos at a brick and mortar store last year. The pile eventually dwindled in size, but it took several months.
