I have tried to explain before how velocity depth and offset work. For example in viewtopic.php?p=122050#p122050.Unless he understands how to adjust the touch sensitivity and depth up from 64 the YC isn't going to bite anyone like a rabid stray dog would. Default "64" kills the sound and layers IMO on almost every voice in the box. It's a flaw that nobody knows about but can be adjusted for every voice.
What would be a cool video is take two YCs one in default mode "64" side by side with one set at "104" and do a blind player test. He would think he's playing two different keyboards.
Velocity depth "64" is the neutral setting, and the only setting that maps the full range of detected velocities to the velocities of the synth engine. Depth "64" basically matches what other keyboards use by default. In some cases, it makes sense to increase the velocity depth for acoustic piano tones. Plausible values are 65-70.
I agree, "104" would produce very different results in a blind test. I just tried it myself, and I expect that most piano players would say that the dynamics with "104" are difficult to control, and that they would very much prefer the setting "64".
