Yamaha MOXF • Moxf8 midi setup question

Hi everyone,
I've had my Moxf8 since 2018, recently I added a deepmind 12 to my setup.
I've hooked the deepmind into the input Jack's of the moxf8 and can hear the deepmind coming through once I switch on the A/D button.
So I decided I wanted to record the deepmind sound into the sequencer on one of the song channels, not sure if it's even possible, so I hooked up the midi connectors, in to out and out to in, I'm not sure if I need both, but I had 2 cables so hooked them up.
I've tried changing midi channels for transit and receive on the deepmind, but it doesn't matter what I do it always plays a sound on the moxf8 as well as the deepmind when I play the deepmind keyboard.
I was able to stop the moxf8 keyboard playing a sound on the deepmind however.
Also I have not been able to find out how to set in the song mode to record the deepmind output.
I have a feeling I will need to get some other piece of audio kit and record into a DAW on a pc / laptop to achieve what I'm trying to achieve.
Any experts here that could help me please.
