Yamaha MODX and MODX+ Forum • Re: Looping during a live performance

Is there any way (or a workflow) to record a loop of a performance and have it continue by using a pedal? I have been looking into this and don't really see a way to make this work in a way like a "loop pedal", but I figured I'd ask folks. Goal is to loop while playing live and then add parts over the looped audio (or midi). Ideally, without purchasing another piece of gear. I could purpose an ipad to do this if there is a way to make that happen.
Well, while the MODX doesn't have a built-in live looping feature like a dedicated loop pedal, you can use its Pattern mode creatively to achieve a similar result (it is MIDI option). You can record your initial loop in Pattern mode and than play other parts over it controling play and stop function with switch pedal for example. You have to determine tempo and length of recording pattern. Please note that this workflow doesn't provide the same level of real-time looping control as a dedicated loop pedal, but you can experiment with this approach and find if it meets your needs.
You can record your performance as audio file also on USB, but there is no any loop function to play live. You can only use recorded file as backing track and play over it.
