They can. But making it plastic increases the profit margin.If Korg can do the build quality thing, why can't Yamaha?
And the fact is it will sell well. There are lots of people who grew up with Yamaha arrangers (I am one of them!) and will instinctively prefer to buy a Yamaha one over anything else. Familiar operation, familiar sounds... maybe even some nostalgia. Hard to beat.
Personally I would never buy it though. PSR-SX900 would be my max.
