Yamaha Montage and Montage M Forum • Re: Multiple copies of same user performances?

Many models (Modx, Modx+, Montage, Montage M) actually allow you to create multiple files with the same name and you won't get any 'file with that name exists' warning.

This can happen if you select 'Store as New Performance' rather than 'Overwrite Current Perf.' The DEFAULT name for the 'new' performance is the current performance name. So if you THINK you changed the name, but didn't, when you press 'Dones' you will now have another performance with the same name as before.

I was able to create 7 copies of the same performance so there may not be a limit.

You can use the 'Date' sort option on the category search screen to put them in the order they wre created.

Just keep in mind that order will NOT tell you which one is which. You will have to either listen to each one or examine them manually to determine which ones you want to keep. Before you do that I suggest you first change the names so they are different. Then when you know which is which give them an appropriate name or delete the ones you don't want.

The usual CAVEAT applies: create a user or backup file before you start deleting things so you can recover if you make a mistake and delete something you wanted to keep.

Hmmm - need I mention that you should give your user, backup and library files names that clue you in as to what they contain and why you made them? No need to keep the above 'temp' backup around once you have renamed or deleted your duplicates.

We usually suggest creating/updating a text file that you use to LOG the name, date and content of any synth file you create so months later you have some documentation as to why you created a particular files. It only takes a few minutes.
