Huge Crimson fan here. Definitely agree Red is the pinnacle of the 70’s Crimson, quite possibly of all KC.
Peter passed away about 2 weeks after seeing the Beat project. Which is in tribute to the 80’s version of KC and the first 3 recordings of that period. Pete was long gone from KC by that point. At the end Belew paid homage to Bruford and then to Fripp by playing a great rendition of Red as the encore.
I never got to see the 70’s KC live, but it was when I first became aware of KC and Pete Sinfield’s lyrics were a big part of that attraction along with ELP, etc..
