I thought I’d give a quick update on my experience with the IK Multimedia iLoud Micro monitors after six months of use.

My opinion hasn’t changed, they're good, but not great. When it comes to products like these, YouTube isn’t always a reliable source of information. The platform is full of reviewers who have either been given the speakers for free or paid in some way to promote them.

That’s not to say these speakers are bad, but they’re nowhere near as good as the “influencer” crowd makes them out to be.

Over the past six months, I’ve tested them with various audio sources. Most recently, I’ve been streaming music from Tidal, which offers tracks at up to 24-bit, 192 kHz. The results aren’t what you’d expect if you’ve watched all the glowing reviews of these monitors.

For me, the biggest issue is the top end. These speakers seem to struggle, especially when handling hi-hats, cymbals, and similar elements. It’s as if they break up and lose definition, turning into a tinny fizz. At times, it can be quite fatiguing.

The low end remains impressive given the size of the speakers, and the mids aren’t too bad, especially on quieter tracks. Acoustic guitar sounds decent, provided there isn’t too much happening in the mix.

As general multimedia speakers, the iLoud Micro's are fine. But if you’re expecting the kind of high-quality performance that YouTube reviewers rave about, well…I will leave you with three words. Smoke and Mirrors!
